Monday 10th November - Sunday 23rd November

Jonathan was born in Dublin and raised in Bray, Co Wicklow. He completed a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2006 at Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology (IADT). On completion of his degree Jonathan became a member of the Moxie group and worked on a number of group shows with this group in 2007 showing in the Broadstone Studios, Red Stables and The Back Loft. Having worked as a Tutor Demonstrator and a Print Technical Officer at IADT, Jonathan Currently works as a staff artist in the Signal Arts Centre.

Taking inspiration from writers like J.R.R. Tolkien, Philip K. Dick, Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, he uses printmaking as the key in the creation of his imaginative work. Showing particular attention to detail, he creates complicated multilayered pieces creating a visual story - the more a viewer looks at the work the more they see within the piece. Liking the prospect of chance and change to happen while he is creating art, Jonathan takes one method as a starting point and allows it to evolve into another, making something new and unexpected.

In his exhibition Earth Abides, inspiration was taken from the survivalist and dying novel genre and also the earth novel genre which came into distribution early in the 1900s. These genres deal with human survival and with post apocalyptic human worlds. Scenarios include: A mysterious plague destroying the human race; Zombies eating their way through the living. However the end of Human life takes place it is the world that is left behind which interests Jonathan - a barren, lifeless mono-chromatic world. A world devoid of interest; the spark of human existence is no more. There is no more singing, no more hope and no one to care.

Jonathan created a number of topographical maps of a world devoid of reference; there are no roads, no cities and no man made structures. These make believe places exist without a point and without identity. A natural state wiped clean to start again or to simply exist as is for all time.
