Monday 19th January – Sunday 1st February 2015

Signal Arts Centre is delighted to be exhibiting works by talented artist Lorna Watkins.

Originally from Co.Kildare, Watkins now lives in North Sligo.  Her background is in textile design but has spent the past few years working in fine art.  Her practice is evolving and currently the work is expressive and responsive. She tends to use a variety of techniques; drawing, painting, encaustic, photography and print.  Life drawing is hugely important to her practice and meditates on “our internal landscape”.

A lot of the work comes from personal experience with pain and others pain which she empathises with.  Memories from conversations overheard or images seen on social media form the basis for new ideas in a body of work.  Pain is often used as a commodity with the constant bombardment of traumatic imagery on social media and she is reacting against that using a variety of media.

Opening Reception: Sunday 11th January, 3-5pm
