Exhibitions of works by Cathy Dillon & Shabnam Vasisht.
Cathy Dillon Shabnam Vasisht

Tuesday 4th September - Sunday 16th September 2018

This exhibition is the result of an artistic collaboration between Indian-born visual artist Shabnam Vasisht, and Irish writer Cathy Dillon.
With textile art, paper collages and prose poems, Vasisht and Dillon respond to one another's work, opening up a conversation between their two cultures. This call-and-response method allows them to explore both the similarities and the differences between the two countries and cultures and offer a commentary on the times.

The title of the exhibition, "A Single Nest" is part of the motto of the famous university started by Indian poet and Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore. The university, in West Bengal, is called Visva-Bharati and its motto is: "Yatra visva bharati ekanidam" – which means "Where the whole world meets in a single nest".

Shabnam Vasisht is a dress-designer, visual artist and writer, who sees colour as her cultural inheritance and expresses emotion through it. She has exhibited her art widely – including in several solo exhibitions – both in Ireland and abroad.  She has also published five books.

Cathy Dillon has been a journalist, writer and editor, specialising in the arts, for many years, working mainly for the Irish Times and the Sunday Business Post. Her poems and photographs have appeared in several publications and exhibitions.

The exhibition will be opened by the Indian Ambassador, H.E. Mrs Vijay Thakur Singh.
