From Wednesday 15th April to Sunday 26th April 2009

Signal Arts Centre is pleased to present this collection of work by Síofra Artists Group. The Group consists of nine artists who formed in 1995 with informal meetings to provide mutual support and to create a forum for discussion on art practice. In 1998 they decided to work together to mount collective exhibitions.

The members of Síofra are interested in exploring the tension between the individual’s freedom of expression and the constraints of working for a group show and to agreed themes. They seek to exhibit in a variety of venues, especially those that are as accessible as possible to the public.

Their first exhibition was, 'Home Truths' in 1998, held in two derelict maisonettes in Blackrock, Co. Dublin, with the support of Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown Arts Office. Since then they have exhibited in various venues including galleries, two universities, a hairdressing salon and several arts centres.

For this exhibition Síofra artists are continuing their exploration of the concept of 'Genesis' which means 'origin' and, through its association with the Bible, it relates to their ideas of Creation. For some, these ideas are further extended by the creation stories of other cultures. For others, the inconstancy of our world makes creation and everyday imperative. They see 'genesis' therefore as a rich source of imagery and energy to which everybody can respond in their individual way.

Opening Reception: Friday 17th April 7-9pm
