Diane Magee’s is an artist from Youghal Co.Cork where she lives and works. Her first solo exhibition in Cork in 2004 was of watercolours of the landscape and light of West Clare. As the work developed she began to work in oil on canvas. Working on a number of paintings simultaneously allows her to transport certain elements from one piece to the next. Each painting shares some details with the other work in the series. Diane works both outdoors and, in her studio, where she uses field studies to analyse, plan, and imagine what she wants to do in a painting. Some subjects work well as small paintings some as large. She will often add an element that better compliments the colours, values, and shapes of the paintings. Changes that will enhance or strengthen the work are considered and then employed to that end.
In 2008 and 2010 she had solo shows in Limerick, which led to a series of commissioned pieces. In 2014, 2017 and 2023 she had solo exhibitions in Dublin in Smock Alley, The Nest Gallery and with Artnetdlr. In 2026 she has another solo exhibition with Cnoc Buí Arts Centre in West Cork. In 2024 year Diane was one of 10 artists selected by the Kevin Kavanagh Gallery to be part of Field Trip, an exhibition in Lavit gallery. She was an invited artist at Ar Seiz Avel exhibition in Rennes, France and had her work selected for the prestigious Art Riddler exhibition where she won the Evans Award. Her work has been selected for many group exhibitions including the RHA annual exhibition, Lavit Gallery, LHQ gallery, Sirius Arts Centre, West Cork Arts Centre, Cnoc Buí Arts Centre, Artnetdlr, Signal Arts Centre, ARTFORM, Courthouse Gallery Ennistymon, The United Arts Club, Ranelagh Arts Centre, Boyle Arts Festival, Birr Arts Festival, Artlinks, 123 Gallery, Dunamaise Arts Centre, Gallery Omata, The Holy Art Gallery London, The Parliament Buildings, Rennes, France.
