Shane Harrison | On The Road
Opening Reception Sunday 23rd January 3pm to 5pm
A Travelogue in Pictures by Shane Harrison
The sixteen paintings featured in this exhibition focus on the many roads the artist has travelled. There are all sorts of journeys involved: foreign holidays, city breaks, the journey to work, or play, and the journey home. Travel might only take Shane Harrison a few steps from home but the landscape, though familiar, is never the same. What he likes to capture is the magic of light whether in daytime or at night. Streetlamps shimmering in the rain at the end of a long walk home, the seductive lights of a beating city, or the sun emerging from rainclouds giving a sudden hint of magic on an everyday scene.
Each painting is a narrative in itself and each is linked to the broader narrative of the exhibition. On the Road is a partial pictorial diary that is being added to all the time. As a writer, the artist’s travels and experiences have always contributed to his prose, whether in the fiction of his short stories and novels, or in the accounts he has written of the places, local and foreign that he has visited. These paintings are another way of describing things. Free of words but rich in detail, it is the artists profound hope that the viewer will feel part of the scenes he has created here.
