Opening Reception: Thursday 25th July 2019 7pm – 9pm

This body of work is a part of Conroy's continuing investigation into the Biophilia hypothesis which suggests that we humans have an innate connection to life and all living things.

During a residency at the Heinrich Böll Cottage, Achill Island, the artist began to closely examine organic structures found within the  local environment when she observed similar shapes and patterns in a variety of local flora and fauna.

Parallel to this, during her research, Conroy came across the concepts of sacred geometry. In sacred geometry, Archangel Metatron, the angel of life, oversees the flow of energy in a mystical cube known as Metatron's Cube. This structure contains all of the geometric shapes in 'God's' creation and represents the patterns that make up everything 'God' has made.

Through observation and drawing Conroy began to deconstruct the organic  structures that she found and distill them into simple geometric shapes. Hexagons, pentagon’s and circles, along with the platonic solids became impossible to avoid. By using elements of sacred geometry, in tandem with familiar mathematical principles, it became possible for the artist to see the structural connections between  elements in the natural environment. This visual investigation leads her to believe that there is undoubtedly a familiar and universal underlying structure within the natural world, that connects us to each other and every other living thing.
