Barbara Allen | Uiscedhathanna/Watercolour

Uiscedhathanna/Watercolour is an exhibition concentrating on watercolour painting, should it be on paper or wood. The idea of painting on wood has been a direct result of making do with materials to hand during the lockdown heatwave of 2020 – floor boards, planks and lemon boxes from Spain depicting beaches out of reach at that time.
Barbara Allen RUA (b. Belfast 1959) attended Glengormley High School where a career in art was nurtured, Barbara went on to graduate with a BA Hons Degree in Visual Communications in 1982, with a particular interest in illustration.

Selected exhibitions include, Gallery Parken Bergen, Norway 1993, Carnegie Library Bangor 2016, Irish Wings Arts Festival Paxos Greece 2017.
Works can be found in the collections of The Arts Council NI, BP Oil Europe, Norwegian Telecom, DIAGEO and several County Museums throughout Ireland. Paintings have been commissioned publicly and privately from clients such as Invest NI, Ulster Television, Seafish Edinburgh and The Royal Norwegian Embassy London.
Between 1983-1993 Barbara won several travel awards from The National Trust, British Council, An Chomhairle Ealaíon and is five times winner of the RUA watercolour prize.
With a house move to Donegal the artist’s interest widened to include fish and all things with a nautical flavour.
