When creating this collection of watercolour paintings, Kaisa Ypya wanted to look into how tumultuous nature can be and how there is beauty in its destructiveness, volatility and its ability to create both life and death.

Kaisa Ypya has always been fascinated by the way light and shadows change our perception of what we see and how we view the outdoors and nature. The paintings in this exhibition have become a collection of snapshots of moments the artist has spent out in the wilderness, captured by her camera, and her attempt to translate the images into watercolour paintings. Our shared longing to return to a more connected life and the feeling that we have become so far-removed from nature is now more obvious than it has been ever before. Ypya’s paintings are a method of escaping that feeling of being trapped in the routines of a man-made world with its creeping sense of restlessness.
