Signal is please to present an exhibition by four artists, interested in integrating their varied practises and backgrounds towards the exploration of a shared theme. Tracing remnants from the past using a variety of mediums. Each of them has approached the theme from an individual starting point reflecting physical or historic realities and personal or shared interests in the imaging of evidence.
‘Mankind’ is based on a long poem, ‘The Making of Mankind’ written in 1965. This poem constituted the inaugural lecture, which the artist’s father gave on the occasion of his gaining a personal chair in Dental Anatomy at Queens University in Belfast.The poem doesn’t say much about teeth. Instead he chose to address the dilemma’s faced by humanity as it strives through history and evolution towards a meaningful equilibrium.These dilemmas were manifest at that time, in the north, in the world, and for him very personally in the recognition of his own approaching death.
The title of the exhibition comes from the familiar proximity of the historical railway-line, running north and south along the Wicklow shore lands. The exhibition is about diversity, accessibility and much more. Using the title, ‘STATIONS’ as a point of departure together with a uniform format (two sizes in two dimensions), the artists have taken the essence of the subject and travelled onwards, in wildly different tangible and intangible directions.
‘HOUSE’- An exhibition in diverse media by four home-lovers: Donna Coogan, Ann Dillon, Biddy Scott & Beatrice Stewart. This is an exhibition for all lovers of ‘Doll’s Houses’ and other small homes; a gentle comment on the creative potential of house and home at a time of loss, scarcity and migration.
